moons

During the summer of 1980, Wheelwright made a series of conte crayon drawings of the moon, beginning with one which looked like his newborn daughter, May. He discovered 28 shapes and decided to model a different small moon in wax each year for 28 years. The moons are cast into a bronze edition of 12, most often at his foundry in Vermont. As of 2008 the moon project has been completed! The entire set of 28 moons was exhibited at Boston Sculptors Gallery during February 2009.
